HAVER NAMED 2023 GM OF THE YEAR:  Tom Haver won a close contest by 4 votes
to capture the 2023 GM of the Year Award.  Only 7 votes separated First

BOARD OF DIRECTORS NOMINATIONS CLOSE MARCH 31: . Final Nominations and
100-word statements are due by March 31 for anyone wishing to run for the
Board of Directors. 

 

All BPA members are hereby notified of their right to nominate members for
the three Board seats whose terms expire at the next WBC. To appear on the
ballot, a member must be nominated in writing (email of pdf copy to
convention director allowed) by at least three members; one of which must be
the nominee. Nominations must be signed and received at BPA, 7766 Valley
View Court, Hickory, NC 28602 no later than March 31, 2024, to be eligible
to appear on the ballot for the upcoming election. NOTE: A Member cannot
nominate more than one member for the Board. When contemplating nominations,
members should consider that the BPA conducts most of its business by
email/zoom and needs Board members who are able and willing to offer their
time and skills to the organization in a timely manner. Besides forwarding a
signed nomination, each nominee must submit a statement not to exceed 100
words summarizing what they can contribute in service to the Board of
Directors of the BPA by March 31, 2024. The nomination form is online at

MEMBERSHIP RATES INCREASE APRIL 1: The BPA annual membership drive continues
but prices will increase on April 1, 2024.  If you still want to get the
lowest rates, you must complete and submit the online application at
http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/MemberForm.shtml and submit payment via
Paypal or check.  To receive the price before it increases, the form and the
payment must be submitted before April 1 (Paypal payment sent or check
postmarked before April 1, 2024).

 

2024 EVENT LISTING UPDATED:  The current event listings for the Century
Group,  Trials,  Sponsored and Vendor events are updated.  We currently need
one GM's for 1930 (RGG).  A complete listing of the events for WBC 2024 can
be found on the event page at

MORE WBC 2024 PREVIEWS POSTED:  A decision was made for WBC 2024 to remove
the schedule from the preview pages so that previews could be posted earlier
in the year.  63 of the 114 Century Group previews have been posted.

SEVEN SPRINGS RESERVATIONS FOR WBC 2024:  Reservations are now open for
Condos and Chalets.  Reservations for Hotel rooms for stays of 3 or more
nights are open.  Reservations for 2 nights or more will open at 9:00 am on
April 16, 2024

Completed Tournaments

 

MAQUIRE WINS 1ST GREAT WESTERN TRAIL PBEM:  Forty-four platers played 74
games with Patrick Maguire becoming the first PBeM champion in Great Western
Trail.  A full report can be found at

Starting Tournaments:

 

7 WONDERS DUEL TO BEGIN IN MAY: Chris Wildes will be starting a 7 Wonders
PBeM tournament in May.  The tournament will follow a double elimination
format with Swiss style pairings. The winner of the tournament will be the
last and only player with fewer than two losses. For more details on the

CASTLES OF BURGUNDY TO BEGIN IN APRIL:  Castles of Burgundy has been a
tournament at WBC since 2013, allowing players to compete in building up
their provinces with a variety of tiles while balancing a limited number of
actions with dice and risk-taking.  The tournament will be played on the
Board Game Arena online game portal and all entrants will play 4
simultaneous games for a chance to advance to further rounds. Visit

FOOTBALL STRATEGY PBEM TO START IN APRIL WITH NEW FORMAT:  Ken Whitesell
will be running a Football Strategy PBeM again starting in April.  This time
the format will be a league format with advancement to single elimination

LAS VEGAS TO BEGIN IN JUNE: Chris Wildes will be starting a Las Vegas PBeM
tournament in June.  The tournament will have two rounds of four

PRO GOLF PBEM BEGINS IN APRIL:  Pro Golf will commence its fifteenth annual
BPA PBeM rendition on April 1, 2024.  Once again, we shall play Augusta
during April, the month of the Masters.  Round two in May we will play
Muirfield Village, as the Memorial is played then.  Finally, during our
third round in June, we shall play Pebble Beach in honor of the U.S. Open.

WINGSPAN PBEM TO START IN APRIL: Chris Wildes will be the GM for the next
BPA Wingspan PBeM.  The tournament is planning to start in April.  For more

Ongoing Tournaments:

 

ADVANCED CIVILIZATION FINALS UNDER WAY:  The Final has begun the in Advanced
Civilization.  There were seven unique winners including two-time defending
champion Alex Herndon.  They will be joined by the closest runner-up for the
8-player Final. Babylon was the most frequent winner in the Heats with 3
wins followed by Iberia (2 wins) and single wins for Illyria, Africa, and
Assyria.    Nation selection is complete. In choice order we have Babylon,
Egypt, Assyria, Africa, Crete, Iberia, Thrace, and Illyria.  Follow along on

FIRST ROUND OF FOR THE PEOPLE CONTINUES:  All first round games have begun

MARCH MADNESS PBEM FIRST ROUND GAMES COMPLETE: All second round games are
complete.  The third round games have a deadline of March 14th.

Seven Teams have reached the Sweet 16 and Jeff Mullet's 21A Oklahoma State
2005 is the first and only team to advance to the Elite 8.  Seven other

members. 

Others may qualify with a $10 Email membership in the year the event starts.


 

BPA members who would like to see an email tournament for their favorite
game are encouraged to step forward as the GM of such an event. BPA does not
run tournaments. Rather, we are an organization of gamers lending support to
one another so such events can happen. No one cares as much about your hobby
