BICHARD VOTED SPORTSMANSHIP WINNER: Andrew Bichard has been named Sportsman
of the Year for 2023 receiving 27% of the votes cast in the annual
membership voting.  Andrew earned himself the WBC's biggest prize . free

CLOSEST CAESAR EVER AS JIANG NARROWLY MANAGES FOUR-PEAT:  Allan Jiang
becomes the first four-time Caesar winner defeating the 2023 Praetor winner
by 1 Laurel.  Allan's 179 Laurels with 3 firsts, 3 seconds, a third, a
fourth, and 2 fifths edged out Michael Swinson who had 178 Laurels with 3
firsts, 2 seconds, 4 thirds, and a fourth.  For more details on the Caesar

SWINSON REPEATS AS PRAETOR:  Michael Swinson joins Allan Jiang as two-time
winner of the Praetor Award for most PBeM Laurels in the year.  Michael
posted 128 Laurels in the PBeM tournaments with 2 wins, 2 seconds, 3 thirds
and a fourth. Allan Jiang finished second with 88 Laurels.  For more details

2024 TRAIL VOTE RESULTS:  The 2024 Membership Drive saw 865 Members sign up
for WBC 2024 with 690 members voting for trial events.  Once again there was
a strong preference for returning games held at the previous WBC with 4 new
games and 2 games returning after an absence from WBC.  The Four new games
that made Trial status are Heat, Imperial Struggle, Border Reivers, and
Twilight Struggle: Red Sea.  King of Tokyo and Fire in the Lake also
returned after an absence from WBC.  The results of the trial vote can be

WBC EVENT SUBMISSIONS FOR CENTURY GROUP/VENDOR/SPONSORS NOW BEING ACCEPTED:
Event Forms for all WBC 2024 events are now available to be downloaded from
The event form page at  <http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/event-form.html>
http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/event-form.html. To submit a form to GM an
event, you must become a BPA member for 2024 and complete and email the
Event Form along with your Event Description (Word format preferred) for the
Preview Page to the Convention Director at

conventiondirector [at] boardgamers.org  by the February 15, 2024 submission
deadline.  Sponsor, Vendor, and Exhibitor Submissions will have a deadline
of February 28, 2024.

 

Reminder: Any Game submitted (expansion's use included) on an event form
must be published and available to the public by February 28, 2024.

There is less than a week left to submit GM forms for WBC 2024
Century/Legacy events.  There are currently 32 events waiting for a GM. 

 

BPA 2024 PREREGISTRATION STARTS STRONG:  BPA Membership for 2024 has started
strong.  See a list of those registered so far at
http://boardgamers.org/wbc_preparation_prereg.html .

 

There are currently 25 people who have sent in a membership form but have
not sent in payment.  There are also 2 individuals who sent in payment but
have not submitted a membership application.  In order to complete the
membership, both the application and payment must be received.

 

Online membership will remain open until June 15, 2024.  Price Increases
will occur on , April 1, and June 15, 2024.  For details on the different

FIRST WBC 2024 PREVIEWS POSTED:  A decision was made for WBC 2024 to remove
the schedule from the preview pages so that previews could be posted earlier
in the year.  The first 10 previews have been posted. Previews for WBC 2024

ADDITIONAL EVENT REPORTS POSTED FOR WBC 2022 AND WBC 2023:  Paths of Glory
report received and posted for WBC 2022.  Castles of Mad King Ludwig and

BOARD OF DIRECTORS NOMINATIONS: All BPA members are hereby notified of their
right to nominate members for the three Board seats whose terms expire at
the next WBC. To appear on the ballot, a member must be nominated in writing
(email of pdf copy to convention director allowed) by at least three
members; one of which must be the nominee. Nominations must be signed and
received at BPA, 7766 Valley View Court, Hickory, NC 28602 no later than
March 31, 2024, to be eligible to appear on the ballot for the upcoming
election. NOTE: A Member cannot nominate more than one member for the Board.
When contemplating nominations, members should consider that the BPA
conducts most of its business by email/zoom and needs Board members who are
able and willing to offer their time and skills to the organization in a
timely manner. Besides forwarding a signed nomination, each nominee must
submit a statement not to exceed 100 words summarizing what they can
contribute in service to the Board of Directors of the BPA by March 31,
2024. The nomination form is online at

BPA BOARD TENTH SEAT FOR 4Q23 POSTED:  The Tenth Seat for 4Q23 has been

planned to be updated in the second month after the quarter ends (February,
May, August, November).

 

SEVEN SPRINGS RESERVATIONS FOR WBC 2024:  Reservations are now open for
Condos and Chalets.  Reservations for Hotel rooms for stays of 5 or more
nights are open.  Reservations for 4 nights or more will open at 9:00 am on
February 14, 2024.

 

To make a reservation, call Vail Resorts Reservations and use our group code
of B7SWBC24.   Rooms and reservations are subject to hotel availability. A
minimum of a 2-night stay is required.  Guests may only reserve up to two
(2) rooms under the same name and/or credit card number.

Starting Tournaments:

 

CASTLES OF BURGUNDY TO BEGIN IN APRIL:  Castles of Burgundy has been a
tournament at WBC since 2013, allowing players to compete in building up
their provinces with a variety of tiles while balancing a limited number of
actions with dice and risk-taking.  The tournament will be played on the
Board Game Arena online game portal and all entrants will play 4
simultaneous games for a chance to advance to further rounds. Visit

FOOTBALL STRATEGY PBEM TO START IN APRIL WITH NEW FORMAT:  Ken Whitesell
will be running a Football Strategy PBeM again starting in April.  This time
the format will be a league format with advancement to single elimination

PRO GOLF PBEM BEGINS IN APRIL:  Pro Golf will commence its fifteenth annual
BPA PBeM rendition on April 1, 2024.  Once again, we shall play Augusta
during April, the month of the Masters.  Round two in May we will play
Muirfield Village, as the Memorial is played then.  Finally, during our
third round in June, we shall play Pebble Beach in honor of the U.S. Open.

FIRST ROUND OF FOR THE PEOPLE CONTINUES:  All first round games have begun

MARCH MADNESS PBEM FIRST ROUND GAMES COMPLETE: All eight first round games
are now complete.  The second round games have a deadline of February 13th.

Ken Gutermuth's 29B Louisville 1972 is the first team to reach the Sweet 16.

VICTORY IN THE PACIFIC FIRST ROUND COMPLETE: Some unusual outcomes appeared
in Round 1. Two of the top three seeds were eliminated, including Michael
Day for personal reasons and Mike Kaye who lost a final battle showdown for
the Japanese Islands that lasted more than 14 rounds and saw Mike's Hosho
and Ryuho unsuccessfully try to stop the Allied surface lap. Perhaps most
shocking was the total domination of the Allies -- winning 8 of 11 games.

WASHINGTON'S WAR ROUND 2 UNDERWAY:   Round 2 of the tournament is under way.

members. 

Others may qualify with a $10 Email membership in the year the event starts.


 

BPA members who would like to see an email tournament for their favorite
game are encouraged to step forward as the GM of such an event. BPA does not
run tournaments. Rather, we are an organization of gamers lending support to
one another so such events can happen. No one cares as much about your hobby
