BOARD OF DIRECTORS NOMINATIONS CLOSE MARCH 31: There are currently two
incumbents and 6 other members running for the 3 Board positions running
from 2024-2026. Final Nominations and 100-word statements are due by March
31 for anyone wishing to run for the Board of Directors. 

 

All BPA members are hereby notified of their right to nominate members for
the three Board seats whose terms expire at the next WBC. To appear on the
ballot, a member must be nominated in writing (email of pdf copy to
convention director allowed) by at least three members; one of which must be
the nominee. Nominations must be signed and received at BPA, 7766 Valley
View Court, Hickory, NC 28602 no later than March 31, 2023, to be eligible
to appear on the ballot for the upcoming election. NOTE: A Member cannot
nominate more than one member for the Board. When contemplating nominations,
members should consider that the BPA conducts most of its business by
email/zoom and needs Board members who are able and willing to offer their
time and skills to the organization in a timely manner. Besides forwarding a
signed nomination, each nominee must submit a statement not to exceed 100
words summarizing what they can contribute in service to the Board of
Directors of the BPA by March 31, 2023. The nomination form is online at

MEMBERSHIP RATES INCREASE APRIL 1: The BPA annual membership drive continues
but prices will increase on April 1, 2023.  If you still want to get the
lowest rates, you must complete and submit the online application at
http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/MemberForm.shtml and submit payment via
Paypal or check.  To receive the price before it increases, the form and the
payment must be submitted before April 1 (Paypal payment sent or check
postmarked before April 1, 2023).

 

2023 EVENT LISTING UPDATED:  The current event listings for Century, Legacy,
Trial,  Sponsor and Vendor events has been updated.  We currently need three
GM's for Space Station Phoenix (RGG), Gangsters, and Formula De.  A complete
listing of the current events for WBC 2023 can be found at

32 EVENT REPORTS POSTED: Thirty-two WBC 2022 event reports have been posted.

BPA 2023 PREREGISTRATION APPROACHING 1000 MEMBERS:  BPA Membership for 2023
has reached 971 members.  See a list of those registered so far at
http://boardgamers.org/wbc_preparation_prereg.html .

 

There are currently 59 people who have sent in a membership form but have
not sent in payment.  There are also 5 individuals who sent in payment but
have not submitted a membership application.  In order to complete the
membership, both the application and payment must be received.

 

SEVEN SPRINGS RESERVATIONS FOR WBC 2023:  Reservations are now open for
Condos, Chalets, and  Hotel rooms for 3 nights or more.  Reservations for
Hotel rooms for stays of 2 or more nights will open on Friday, April 14,
2023, at 9:00 am.  With the Vail purchase of Seven Springs last year, this
year's reservation process has changed.  To make a reservation, call Vail
Resorts Reservations and use our group code of B7SWBC23.   Rooms and
reservations are subject to hotel availability. A minimum of a 2-night stay
is required.

 

Room reservations will be available based on the following schedule:

*       Stays of 5 nights or more - Tuesday, January 17, 2023
*       Stays of 4 nights or more - Wednesday, February 15, 2023
*       Stays of 3 nights or more - Wednesday, March 15, 2023
*       Stays of 2 nights or more - Friday, April 14, 2023

PBeM NEWS:

 

Completed Tournaments:

 

SWINSON CAPTURES EGIZIA CHAMPIONSHIP:  Michael Swinson's three wins and a
second in the finals captures the 2022 Egizia, outlasting 36 other players.
The remaining laurelists, in order, were Dominic Blais, Andrew Emerick,
Chris Wildes, Jon Senn, and Eric Freeman.

2023 7 WONDERS DUEL TOURNAMENT TO START IN EARLY MAY:  Chris Wildes will be
running another 7 Wonders Duel  PBeM tournament starting in early May.  More
information on the tournament can be found at

EL GRANDE TOURNAMENT TO START IN APRIL: El Grande, the Spanish-themed game
of area control, and one of the longest running Euros at WBC, will be
starting a tournament in mid-April.  Folks will play four simultaneous
four-player games to advance to further rounds.   Please visit

2023 LAS VEGAS TOURNAMENT TO START IN EARLY JUNE:  Chris Wildes will be
running another Las Vegas PBeM tournament starting in early June.  More

PRO GOLF TO COMMENCE ITS 14TH ANNUAL TOURNAMENT ON APRIL 1: Can you be the
next proud owner of the BPA PBeM green jacket? If you want to play this

Pro Golf will commence its fourteen annual BPA PBeM rendition on April 1,
2023.  Once again, we shall play Augusta during April, the month of the
Masters.  Round two in May we will play Muirfield Village, as the Memorial
is played then.  Finally, during our third round in June, we shall play
Pebble Beach in honor of the U.S. Open.

NEW IN 2023:  I have taken away Shegeki Maruyama and Colin Montgomery this
year.  A random golfer will be chosen for the five available golfers for
each player.  For those playing in a group, each player in the group with be
assigned a different golfer.


2023 WINGSPAN TOURNAMENT TO START IN APRIL:  Chris Wildes will be running
the first Wingspan PBeM tournament starting in April.  More information on

Ongoing Tournaments:

 

2021 GETTYSBURG'88 HAS REACHED FINAL FOUR:  Gettysburg '88 PBEM Championship
V has reached the final four state of this double elimination event.
Standing alone atop the "undefeated bracket" is Greg Smith.  He awaits the
survivor of the "single elimination bracket," whose three remaining
competitors are Richard Beyma, Joe Harkins, and Vince Meconi.  The
heretofore rarely used July 1-July 2 Scenario has proved successful at both
shortening play time and balancing sides between the Confederates and Union.

 

2021 GREAT CAMPAIGNS OF THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR ENTERS SEMIFINALS:

Out of 37 total entrants and after five rounds of play, four players have
advanced to the semifinals of the tournament. Laurent Tisseyre and
Jean-Louis Dirion are playing for the championship of the PBEM Division, and
Ken Lee and Paul Sampson are playing for the championship of the Live-Play
Division. The winners of those games will advance to the finals. Also having
a very strong showing in the tournament, making it to the quarterfinal
round, are Bruno Passacantando, Steve Likevich, John Hattrem, and Rob Doane.
The tournament features scenarios from the Hood Strikes North game of the
GCACW series. More details on the tournament can be found at

MARCH MADNESS ROUND 2 COMPLETE:   All round 2 games are now complete after
having several go right to the deadline.  The deadline for the five
remaining games in the third round in Bracket A is April 4th, and for the
six remaining games in Bracket B is April 5th.

 

We now have 15 unfortunate players (including your GM and CD) who have had
both of their teams eliminated from the event.  There are also 8 players who
still have both teams alive.  

 

Five teams are already in the Sweet 16, and we are awaiting our first team
to reach the Elite Eight.

 

 

 

BPA PBeM Remember: ... all of the above PBeM fun is free to current BPA
members. 

Others may qualify with a $10 Email membership in the year the event starts.


 

BPA members who would like to see an email tournament for their favorite
game are encouraged to step forward as the GM of such an event. BPA does not
run tournaments. Rather, we are an organization of gamers lending support to
one another so such events can happen. No one cares as much about your hobby
