PBeM NEWS:

Tournaments Completed:

TRIMMER WINS MR. MADISON'S WAR PBeM: Chris Trimmer defeated Erin Weir in the
finals to capture the 2022 play by email tournament. Erin would defeat
Chris in a rematch in the WBC finals. Remaining Laurelists, in order, were
Gilbert Collins, Ron Fedin, Pat Duffy, and Dave Stiffler.

Tournaments Starting:

2023 ADVANCED CIVILIZATION TOURNAMENT ACCEPTING SIGN-UPS: GM Nathan Barhorst
will once again run our annual advanced civilization tournament. Sign-ups
will begin shortly with the tournament starting in early 2023 after the
finals of the 2022 tournament have started. Players will soon be able to
sign up for the 2023 tournament at <https://bpa-civ.rol-play.com/>
https://bpa-civ.rol-play.com/ .

20TH MARCH MADNESS PBeM TO START IN JANUARY: The 20th annual BPA March
Madness PBeM tournament (2023) will start with the draft on Tuesday, January
2nd, 2023. To sign up to play, email GM Bruce Monnin (
<mailto:bdmonnin [at] nktelco.net> bdmonnin [at] nktelco.net).

We annually get ~40 players for this event. All players receive two teams,
so are guaranteed at least two games in the event. The format is single
elimination until a champion is crowned, usually in late spring.

If you have played March Madness before but are worried about using ACTS to
play the game through email, we have volunteers (usually Harry Flawd and
Mark Yoshikawa) standing by ready to show you how easily it can be done.

The teams to be drafted can be found on the team's page

http://user.nktelco.net/bdmonnin/mms-teams.htm) and the bracket can be seen
at 2023 Bracket ( <http://user.nktelco.net/bdmonnin/mm-brack-2023.htm>
http://user.nktelco.net/bdmonnin/mm-brack-2023.htm). It is currently setup
for 40 or fewer entrants. If we have more than 40 or less than 38, the
bracket will be adjusted.

SPLENDOR TOURNAMENT TO START IN FEBRUARY: Chris Wildes will once again be
GMing a Splendor tournament in 2023. The format this year will be three
rounds of three simultaneous games. All games will be 3-player games. For
more information and sign-up details, visit the tournament website at
<https://bgtournament.wordpress.com/splendor/>

Ongoing Tournaments:

PATHS OF GLORY TOURNAMENT ROUND 3 HAS BEGUN: The event started with 135
players: We had 33 undefeated players and 53 players with one loss make it
to Round 3; for the 49 folks who didn't make to round 3, including voluntary
withdrawals, we wish you a fond adieu but hopefully you can continue to get
your POG fix in one of the many other organized POG venues. Round 3 of BPA
IX officially starts tomorrow, November 14, and will end 120 days later on
March 14, 2023.  (Round 2 had closer to 110 days so we had to extend it;
lesson learned.)

WASHINGTON'S WAR ENTERS QUARTERFINALS: The preliminary tournament rounds in
the 2021 Washington's War online tournament have been completed. The top 8
players qualifying for the quarter finals are (in order): Dave Rubin,
Phillip Burgin-Young, William Bentley, Tim Tow, George Young, Doug Green,
Tom Dworschak, and Greg Ottoman. Dave and Phillip had 4 wins, the others
were 3 and 1 and qualified based on strength of schedule. The quarter finals
are underway as of November 5th, 2022.

The defending champion in the 2019 online tournament Derek Landel, and
current 2022 WBC Washington's war champion James Pei participated in the
preliminary rounds but did not qualify for the final 8. There were 69 games
played in the preliminary rounds, 34 American, and 35 British victories.
Four players volunteered to be eliminators in the preliminary rounds: Mike
Mitchell, Richard Wright, Paul Pawlak, and Chris Trimmer. We had 38 players
in the preliminary rounds, spread across the world, from Austria, Australia,
Canada, England, France, Germany, and the United States. George Young and
James Pei graciously volunteered to be Assistant Game Masters for the
tournament.
