March 2025 BPA Newsletter MARTIN DETHRONES JIANG WINNING CAESAR AWARD: Chad Martin wins the 2024 Caesar award to end Jiang's 4 year hold on the award and joined his son, Andrew (Consul winner) to keep the 2024 Awards in the family. Chad's 184 Laurels with 4 firsts, 2 seconds, 2 fourths, and a sixth edged out Andrew Emerick who had 180 Laurels with 3 firsts, 2 seconds, 3 thirds, and 2 fifths. WILDES NEW PRAETOR AWARD WINNER: Chris Wildes joins Allan Jiang and Michael Swinson as winners of the Praetor Award to recognize the best PBeM tournament player for 2024. Chris posted 118 Laurels in the PBeM tournaments with 2 wins, 1 second, and 2 thirds. Allan Jiang finished second again with 90 Laurels. BOARD OF DIRECTORS NOMINATIONS: All BPA members are hereby notified of their right to nominate members for the three Board seats whose terms expire at the next WBC. To appear on the ballot, a member must be nominated in writing by at least three members; one of which must be the nominee. Nominations must be signed and received at BPA, 7766 Valley View Court, Hickory, NC 28602 no later than April 30, 2025, to be eligible to appear on the ballot for the upcoming election (email of pdf copy to convention director is allowed) NOTE: A Member cannot nominate more than one member for the Board. When contemplating nominations, members should consider that the BPA conducts most of its business by email/zoom and needs Board members who are able and willing to offer their time and skills to the organization in a timely manner. Besides forwarding a signed nomination, each nominee must submit a statement not to exceed 150 words summarizing what they can contribute in service to the Board of Directors of the BPA by April 30, 2025. The nomination form is online at http://www.boardgamers.org/bpanom.html. MEMBERSHIP RATES INCREASE APRIL 1: The BPA annual membership drive continues but prices will increase on April 1, 2025. If you still want to get the lowest rates, you must complete and submit the online application at http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/MemberForm.shtml and submit payment via PayPal or check. To receive the price before it increases, the form and the payment must be submitted before April 1 (PayPal payment sent or check postmarked before April 1, 2025). 2025 EVENT LISTING UPDATED: The current event listings for the Century Group, Trials, Sponsored and Vendor events have been updated. We currently need one GM's for Fishing (RGG). A complete listing of the events for WBC 2025 can be found on the event page at http://www.boardgamers.org/wbc_preparation_pelorphans.html. SEVEN SPRINGS RESERVATIONS FOR THREE NIGHT STAYS AT WBC 2025 OPENS SOON: Reservations are now open for Condos and Chalets. Reservations for Hotel rooms for stays of 4 or more nights are open. Reservations for 3 nights or more will open at 9:00 am on March 19, 2025. To make a reservation, call Vail Resorts Reservations. Our group code must be provided when making reservations. The code is being provided in your membership confirmation email from the Convention Director. It is NOT available on the website for WBC 2025. Rooms and reservations are subject to hotel availability. A minimum of a 2-night stay is required. Guests may only reserve up to two (2) rooms under the same name and/or credit card number. BPA 2025 PREREGISTRATION STARTS STRONG: BPA Membership for 2025 has started strong. Visit the Preregistration page for details at http://boardgamers.org/wbc_preparation_prereg.html . There are currently 20 people who have sent in a membership form but have not sent in payment. There are also 7 individuals who sent in payment but have not submitted a membership application. In order to complete the membership, both the application and payment must be received. Online membership will remain open until June 15, 2025. Price Increases will occur on April 1, and June 15, 2025. PBeM NEWS: Completed Tournaments: PBEM EVENT REPORTS POSTED: PBEM Event Reports have been posted for the following PBeM tournaments: 2024 Agricola, 2024 Breakout: Normandy, 2024 For the People, and 2025 Great Western Trail. Starting Tournaments: 7 WONDERS DUEL PBEM TOURNAMENT TO START IN JUNE: Chris Wildes will be the GM for the next 7 Wonders Duel tournament. The tournament is planning to start in June. CASTLES OF BURGUNDY TO BEGIN IN APRIL: Castles of Burgundy has been a tournament at WBC since 2013, allowing players to compete in building up their provinces with a variety of tiles while balancing a limited number of actions with dice and risk-taking. The tournament will be played on the Board Game Arena online game portal and all entrants will play 4 simultaneous games for a chance to advance to further rounds. PRO GOLF PBEM BEGINS IN APRIL: Pro Golf will commence its sixteenth annual BPA PBeM rendition on April 1, 2025. Once again, we shall play Augusta during April, the month of the Masters. Round two in May we will play Muirfield Village, as the Memorial is played then. Finally, during our third round in June, we shall play Pebble Beach in honor of the U.S. Open. NEW IN 2025: A random golfer will be chosen from the five available golfers for each player. For those playing in a group, each player in the group with be assigned a different golfer. BPA members who would like to see an email tournament for their favorite game are encouraged to step forward as the GM of such an event. BPA does not run tournaments. Rather, we are an organization of gamers lending support to one another so such events can happen. No one cares as much about your hobby as you do. Get involved.
