January 2025 BPA Newsletter MEMBERSHIP DRIVE FOR 2025 IS OPEN: The BPA annual membership drive has begun. From now until January 31, 2025, get the lowest membership rates of the year. Complete the membership application found at http://boardgamers.org/forms/MemberForm.shtml to take advantage of these rates. To be eligible to vote for the 25 Trial Events to be held at WBC 2025 as well as the Sportsman of the year, you must join by January 31, 2025. Online membership will remain open until June 15, 2024. Price Increases will occur on February 1, April 1, and June 15, 2024. To receive a price before it increases, you must submit the online membership application which is available on the BPA website and send payment by the date listed (Paypal payment sent or check postmarked by the dates listed). TRIAL EVENT & SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD VOTING ENDS JANUARY 31: The voting for the 2024 Sportsman of the Year and the 2025 Trial Events ends with the membership price increase on February 1. This is the last chance to influence events to be held at WBC 2025. Sportsmanship nominees can be found at https://www.boardgamers.org/wbc24/sportsmannominees24.html and the trial listing can be found at http://www.boardgamers.org/wbc_preparation_pelorphans.html WBC EVENT SUBMISSIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED: Event Forms for all WBC 2025 Events are now available on the event form page at http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/event-form.html. To submit a form to GM an event, you must become a BPA member for 2025, complete, and email the Event Form along with your Event Description (Word format preferred) for the Preview Page to the Convention Director at conventiondirector [at] boardgamers.org <mailto:conventiondirector [at] boardgamers.org> by the February 15, 2025 submission deadline. Exhibitor, Sponsor, and Vendor Submissions will have a deadline of February 28, 2025. Reminder: Any Game submitted (expansion's use included) on an event form must be published and available to the public by February 28, 2025. A list of the 39 events that have been submitted with the GM's names can be found on the orphans' page at http://www.boardgamers.org/wbc_preparation_pelorphans.html. Prize Level for WBC 2025 has been added to the Century Group listing. There are 4 weeks left to submit GM forms for WBC 2025 Century/Legacy events. There are currently 77 events waiting for a GM. SEVEN SPRINGS RESERVATIONS FOR WBC 2025: Reservations for Hotel rooms opens tomorrow, January 15, 2025, at 9:00 am for stays of 5 nights or more. To make a reservation, call Vail Resorts Reservations with the WBC Group Code provided in your membership confirmation email. Rooms and reservations are subject to hotel availability. A minimum of a 5-night stay is required at this time. Guests may only reserve up to two (2) rooms under the same name and/or credit card number. Room reservations will be available starting at 9:00 am on the following dates: * Stays of 5 nights or more - Wednesday, January 15, 2025 * Stays of 4 nights or more - Wednesday, February 19, 2025 * Stays of 3 nights or more - Wednesday, March 19, 2025 * Stays of 2 nights or more - Wednesday, April 16, 2025 For more information, please visit our lodging page at http://www.boardgamers.org/wbclodging_7S.html . FIRST WBC 2025 PREVIEWS POSTED: The Previews for the 41 Century Group Events received so far have been posted. Previews for WBC 2025 can be found at https://www.boardgamers.org/wbc25/previews-2025.html. 2025 BPA MEMBERSHIP REGISTRATION: The Preregistration for 2025 has been changed to only include the pre-registrant numbers by Membership Level. 496 members are currently registered with another 31 applications received without payments, and another 6 where payment has been received but no application has been sent yet. PBeM NEWS: Completed Tournaments: JIANG CAPTURES AGRICOLA PBEM TITLE: Allan Jiang proves to be best farmer in a field of 28 to capture Agricola title. Remaining Laurelists, in order, were Christopher Ho, Steven LeWinter, Ricky Boyes, Carl Chauvin, and Sam Wolff. More details will be posted in the PBeM event report pages in the next couple weeks. HAMMOND WINS BREAKOUT NORMANDY PBEM: Kevin Hammond defeats Jim Eliason to earn the Breakout Normandy PBeM Title, Remaining Laurelists, in order, were Rodney Robinson, Henry Jones, Robert Malcomson, and Bob Hamel. More details will be posted in the PBeM event report pages in the next couple weeks. MASTER PEI CAPTURES ANOTHER FOR THE PEOPLE TITLE: James Pei defeated Dan Squindo to continue his dominance in For the People tournaments. Remaining Laurelists, in order, were Dominico Licheri, Jukka Hintikka, Mustafa Corapci, and Stephane Chevallier. More details will be posted in the PBeM event report pages in the next couple weeks. ELKINS WINS GREAT WESTERN TRAIL: Dan Elkins captured the title in Great Western Trail in a field of 31 players. Remaining Laurelists, in order, were Patrick Maguire, Ryan Feathers, Carl Chauvin, Mike Turian, and Randy Buehler. More details will be posted in the PBeM event report pages in the next couple weeks. Starting Tournaments: FIRST HEAT PBEM TOURNAMENT TO START IN MARCH: Chris Wildes will be the GM for the 1st BPA Heat PBeM tournament. The tournament is planning to start in March. Ongoing Tournaments: WASHINGTON'S WAR QUARTERFINALS UNDERWAY: The final preliminary round of the Washington's War PBA PBEM Tournament 2023 has been completed. 33 players contested 68 preliminary games, with 37 of them being British wins, 31 American wins. The top 8 players will start the quarterfinals. The top 8 are, in order: Philip Burgin-Young 4-0, George Young 4-0, Roderick Lee 3-1, William Bentley 3-1, Dan Leader 3-1, Mike Pacheco 3-1, Bruno Passacantando 3-1, and Chris Trimmer 3-1. Top 8 were determined by most wins then strength of schedule. Two other players had 3 wins but a lesser strength of schedule. During the preliminary rounds there have been 11 games where Washington was captured by the British. Usually that event a sign of disaster for the Americans, however in 3 of the games the Americans hung on to the end and won. BPA PBeM Remember: ... all of the above PBeM fun is free to current BPA members. Others may qualify with a $10 Email membership in the year the event starts. BPA members who would like to see an email tournament for their favorite game are encouraged to step forward as the GM of such an event. BPA does not run tournaments. Rather, we are an organization of gamers lending support to one another so such events can happen. No one cares as much about your hobby as you do. Get involved.
