November 2017 Newsletter MEMBERSHIP DRIVE FOR 2018 NOW OPEN: The BPA annual membership drive is now open. Join now through January 31st to get the best rates for 2018 as well as voting for the Trial events to be run at WBC 2018 and the 2017 Sportsman of the Year. To join, fill out the membership application found at http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/MemberForm.shtml and submit payment via Paypal or check. To receive this price before it increases, you must submit the online membership application and send payment by the date listed (Paypal payment sent or check postmarked by January 31, 2018). CALL FOR GM's FOR 2018: Now is the time to submit an event form <http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/SubmitEvent.php> for the WBC 2018 events. Please complete the form carefully and completely since it will be used to determine event location for WBC 2018. Reminder that you must be a BPA member for 2018 to GM an event. SEVEN SPRINGS RESERVATIONS: Remember that Reservations at Seven Springs for Condos/Townhouses, Chalets, and Cabins can be booked now. Hotel Reservations for stays of 5 nights or more will open on January 16, 2018. In 2018, the vendor's room will be open from 10AM to 6PM Thursday through Saturday. With many of our attendees departing early Sunday morning, attendees will have more opportunities to visit the vendor's room with the change of days. Consimworld: http://talk.consimworld.com/WebX/?14@@.1dd15816 PBeM NEWS: DOANE WINS BATTLES OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION TOURNAMENT: Young Rob Doane bested game designer Mark Miklos in Pensacola to win the wood with 32 players playing a total of 67 games. The tournament featured an anthology of the BoAR series. During the opening rounds, the battles played in historical order were Brandywine, Germantown, Oriskany, Saratoga, Monmouth and Newtown. The first playoff round pitted the top 12 opponents in four games of three-player Savannah. The quarter finals were played at Guilford Courthouse and the semifinal and final featured Pensacola. The top six Laurelists were Rob Doane, followed by Mark Miklos, Bruno Sinigaglio, Chris Easter, Jim Tracy III, and Andy Maly. MARCH MADNESS DRAFT BEGINS: The sixteenth annual BPA March Madness PBeM tournament started with the draft on Saturday, December 2nd. All players receive two teams, so you are guaranteed at least two games in the event. The format is single elimination until a champion is crowned, usually in late spring. Details of how the draft is proceeding can be found at http://user.nktelco.net/bdmonnin/mms_home_page.html ANNOUNCING NEW THROUGH THE AGES TOURNAMENT: Randy Buehler will be the gamemaster for the newest BPA PBeM tournament "Through the Ages" which will start January 15, 2018. Remember ... all of the above PBeM fun is free to current BPA members. Others may qualify with a $10 Email membership in the year the event starts. All multi-day paid attendees to WBC are current BPA members for the balance of that calendar year. ================================= BPA members who would like to see an email tournament for their favorite game are encouraged to step forward as the GM of such an event. BPA does not run tournaments. Rather, we are an organization of gamers lending support to one another so such events can happen. No one cares as much about your hobby as you do. Get involved.
