June 2024 BPA Newsletter TERRAFARMERS CAPTURE TEAM TOURNAMENT CROWN: For the sixth straight year, the Team Tournament Champions had at least 1 goose egg from one member of their team. The Terrafarmers had only two members score points for their team but so did their closest rival, Robo Dobby. Terrafarmers ended with 17 points , 8 points from Robb Effinger (Innovation), 9 points from Eric Wrobel (Terraforming Mars), and 0 points from Ryan Feathers and Eric Freeman. Second Place finishers Robo Dobby had 13 points, 11 points from Steve Alfieri (Crokinole), 3 points from Felicia Alfieri (Root) and 0 points from Christian Kasilag and Dylan Quintana. PEI WINS BRACKET BUSTING CHAMPIONSHIP: With only one top 10 ranked team finishing in the Top Ten this year, the 2023 Bracket Busting tournament was a low scoring affair with 5 players correctly picking 3 teams finishing in the top 10. Only one, however, picked the correct placement of one of his choices. James Pei's choice of Schooled by a Fool finishing 4th led him to the Bracket Busting Winners Circle. The others finishing with 3 correct picks were Andrew Freeman, James Freman, AJ Jiang, and Lumin Sperling. MEMBERSHIP DRIVE ENDS ON JUNE 15: The BPA annual membership drive continues with Daily memberships now available. Memberships that include WBC admission ends on June 15, 2024. WBC admissions after that date will be on-site at WBC only. Associate memberships allowing participation in BPA Email Events will continue through November 20, 2024. If you still want to get the lower rates before WBC, you must complete and submit the online application at <http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/MemberForm.shtml> http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/MemberForm.shtml and submit payment via PayPal or check. To become a member before WBC, the form and the payment must be submitted before June 15 (PayPal payment sent or check postmarked before June 15, 2024). JUNIORS PREREGISTRATION ENDS JUNE 15: The Junior participants from last year designed art for a Junior's Shirt. The Board has approved issuing a shirt to each Juniors' Room Participant for WBC 2024. In order to accommodate this, a new selection for Junior's Room Attendees has been added to the Application Form found at <http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/MemberForm.shtml> http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/MemberForm.shtml. Please submit a form for each Junior by June 15, 2024. This will make sure we have the correct sizes for each Junior and to preprint the badges for the Juniors attendees. BOARD OF DIRECTORS VOTING ENDS THROUGH JUNE 15: Five Members appear on the ballot for election to a three-year term on the BPA Board of Directors. The slate features two incumbents and three challengers. The voting for the Board of Directors candidates is now open. Members are encouraged to vote on who you believe would be the best candidates on your BPA Board of Directors. Voting will end on June 15, 2024, and winners will be announced at the BPA Annual Meeting on Tuesday July 23, 2024, at 3pm in the Grand Ballroom at Seven Springs. AUCTION AND AUCTION STORE SUBMISSIONS CLOSE JUNE 15: Submissions are due by June 15, 2024 for the 2024 WBC Auction and Auction Store and New Forms, updated for 2024, can be found at <http://www.boardgamers.org/wbc_auction_overview.html> http://www.boardgamers.org/wbc_auction_overview.html. New Forms must be used as they include the item sheet pages that need to be attached to your items. Each member is limited to submissions of 25 items for the Auction and 50 items for the Auction Store. The Auction Store is more than 73% full and the auction is more than 85% full. WBC 2024 TEAM TOURNAMENT NOW OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS: Submissions of Teams for the WBC 2024 Team tournament are open. Team Members must be pre-registered for WBC. To submit your team, one member needs to send an email to <mailto:conventiondirector [at] boardgamers.org> conventiondirector [at] boardgamers.org with Team Tournament Submission in the Title of the email and it must include each members name and team game chosen, it may also include a team logo if desired. The app and program versions of the schedule are under development. BPA SEEKS CANDIDATES FOR ITS TREASURER POSITION: The BPA Treasurer position is a Board appointed Officer position of the organization. The Board is looking for a qualified candidate from our membership to assume the responsibilities of BPA Treasurer. The major responsibilities of the position are: * Processing Monthly Payroll * Filing all necessary tax forms including Annual Form 990 Tax Return, Quarterly Payroll, Annual Payroll, W-2, 1099's, and Sales & Use Taxes. * Initiating payments of payroll and sales & use taxes to the IRS and /the State of North Carolina (NC) * Preparing annual financials of the organization for Board approval. * Preparing Annual Budget for Board approval. The ideal candidate would have experience in an accounting software package for payroll processing (currently use QuickBooks), Tax filing with IRS (use EFTPS), Social Security (W2 and 1099's) and State Tax Filings (Currently file NC Annual Tax Return, NC Payroll Taxes, and Monthly Sales & Use Tax electronically).
