October 2020 Newsletter PRAETOR AWARD ADDED TO ANNUAL AWARDS STARTING IN 2020: With the cancellation of WBC and the increase in PBeM tournaments in 2020, the board has reviewed our annual awards and has created the Praetor Award for best play in BPA sponsored PBeM tournaments. The award will go to the member who has accumulated the most BPA PBeM laurels each calendar year. The first Praetor award will be awarded during WBC 2021 for the PBeM tournaments concluded in calendar year 2020. CAESAR AWARD CHANGES AND STATUS FOR 2020 AND BEYOND: With the creation of the Praetor award for best PBeM performance in the year, the Board has decided to change the Caesar Award requirements starting in 2020. Previously, Caesar was awarded to the individual who earned the most laurels at WBC and BPA PBeM tournaments during a calendar year. Starting in 2020, the Caesar Award will only be awarded if the same individual wins both the Consul Award (most laurels at WBC) and Praetor (most laurels in BPA PBeM). Based on this change, since WBC 2020 had to be canceled and there is no Consul for 2020, there will not be a Caesar Award for 2020. TENTH SEAT ARCHIVES TO RETURN: From 2005 to 2008, a page called the Tenth Seat Archives was created which provided insight into BPA board of directors' decisions and answers to Frequently Asked Questions. The old pages can be found at http://www.boardgamers.org/about_newsletters.html . With the November newsletter, the Tenth Seat Archives will begin again with the 2020 version. WBC 2021 NEW TRIAL EVENTS: Two New Trial events will be added to WBC 2021 based on a limited Membership voting. Games that can be included on this ballot must be games that have never appeared on a Trial ballot in the past. Event Forms for games to be included will be due between December 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020. DO NOT submit forms before then as the current event form will be changing. BPA Members will be able to vote for 2 games on the ballot between January 1, 2021 and January 31, 2021. For a listing of the Century Group and Trial events included in WBC 2021, please visit http://www.boardgamers.org/wbc_preparation_pelorphans.html.
