MCCORMICK VOTED SPORTSMANSHIP WINNER: Micah McCormick has been named
Sportsman of the Year for 2019 by appearing on 38% of the 439 ballots and
receiving 37% of the votes cast in the annual membership vote. Micah
McCormick earned praise in both Castles of Mad King Ludwig and Vegas
Showdown.  Micah earned himself WBC's biggest prize . free lodging at the

2020 TRIAL VOTE RESULTS: The 2020 Membership Drive saw record numbers of
Members vote for the trial events to be held at WBC 2020.  The members
indicated a strong preference for returning games as 22 of the 25 trials
were events at WBC 2019.  Only Wingspan (largest vote total), Azul (2nd
largest vote total), and Naval War joined as new events in 2020.  The
results of the Membership Vote can be found at

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE CONTINUES: The BPA annual membership drive continues but
prices will increase on April 1, 2020.  If you still want to get the lower
rates, you must complete and submit the online application at
http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/MemberForm.shtml and submit payment via
Paypal or check.  To receive the price before it increases, the form and the
payment must be submitted before April 1 (Paypal payment sent or check
postmarked before April 1, 2020).  A list of the current members as of
February 12, 2020 can be found at

who have completed the membership form and submitted payment are on the

Online membership will remain open until June 15, 2020.  Price increases
will occur on April 1st and June 15th, 2020.  To receive a price before it
increases, you must submit the online membership application which is
available on the BPA website and send payment by the date listed (Paypal
payment sent or check postmarked by the dates listed).

CALL FOR GM's FOR 2020: Now is the time to submit an event form
<http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/SubmitEvent.php>  for the WBC 2020 events.
Please complete the form carefully and completely since it will be used to
determine event location for WBC 2020.  A reminder that you must be a BPA
sustaining or higher member for 2020 to GM an event.  The Orphans page, with
the WBC 2020 trial events, has been updated as of February 13, 2020 at
http://www.boardgamers.org/wbc_preparation_pelorphans.html.

 

Currently 38 of the 111 Century/Legacy events and 9 of the 25 Trial events
have GMs.  The deadline for submitting event forms is February 28, 2020,
only two weeks away.  Any event without a GM by February 28 will be subject
to replacement by an alternate event with a committed GM.  

 

SEVEN SPRINGS RESERVATIONS:  Hotel Reservations opened on January 15 for
stays of 5 nights or more.  Remember that Reservations at Seven Springs for
Condos/Townhouses, Chalets, and Cabins can also be booked at this time.  For

EURO EVENT COORDINATION:  Eric Freeman has agreed to coordinate the 2020
Euro events again in an attempt to minimize scheduling conflicts.  If you
are a Euro event GM and would like to be a part of this, please contact Eric

BOARD OF DIRECTORS NOMINATIONS CLOSING SOON: All BPA members are hereby
notified of their right to nominate members for the three Board seats whose
terms expire at the next WBC. To appear on the ballot, a member must be
nominated in writing by at least three members; one of which must be the
nominee. Nominations must be signed and received at BPA, 7766 Valley View
Court, Hickory, NC 28602 no later than February 28, 2020 to be eligible for
election in that year. NOTE: Email nominations are NOT acceptable, nor can a
member nominate more than one member for the Board. When contemplating
nominations, members should consider that the BPA conducts most of its
business by email and needs Board members who are able and willing to offer
their time and skills to the organization in a timely manner. Besides
forwarding a signed nomination, each nominee must submit a statement not to
exceed 100 words summarizing what they can contribute in service to the
Board of Directors of the BPA by February 28, 2020. The nomination form is

ADVANCED CIVILIZATION 2020 TOURNAMENT STARTING IN MARCH:  GM Nathan Barhorst
is now accepting sign-ups for the 2020 Advanced Civilization PBeM
tournament.  If you would like to pre-register for the 2020 tournament,

BRASS TOURNAMENT SCHEDULED FOR MARCH START:  The 2nd BPA Brass PBeM
tournament will start in March.  Allan Jiang will be the GM for the
tournament.  Format and sign-up instructions can be found at

CONCORDIA TOURNAMENT SCHEDULED FOR MARCH START:  Concordia has been a
tournament at WBC since 2013, and has been a favorite with its blend of
economics and card/action management, as well as skillfully anticipating
your opponents.   The tournament will be played on the Boite-a-Jeux online
game portal and all entrants will play 4 simultaneous games for a chance to
advance to further rounds. Visit

Ongoing Tournaments:

 

EMPIRE OF THE SUN ENTERS ROUND 4:  The 2020 Winter of Wargaming is going
full tilt! Empire of the Sun in Round 4 is off a good start. Of the 18
players remaining, all but 5 are battling to not just to advance, but to
stay in the tournament entirely. Some seriously good game play is on display
in those ACTS log files.

TWILIGHT STRUGGLE GETTING READY FOR ROUND 9:  The final game of round 8 is
concluding and round 9 is about to begin.  It looks like the tournament will
conclude with Round 10 or 11.  The GM is planning on starting another
Twilight Struggle PBeM tournament at the conclusion of this tournament.

BPA PBeM Remember: ... all of the above PBeM fun is free to current BPA
members. 

Others may qualify with a $10 Email membership in the year the event starts.


All multi-day paid attendees to WBC are current BPA members for the balance
of that calendar year. 

 

BPA members who would like to see an email tournament for their favorite
game are encouraged to step forward as the GM of such an event. BPA does not
run tournaments. Rather, we are an organization of gamers lending support to
one another so such events can happen. No one cares as much about your hobby
as you do. Get involved. See the requirements to host a BPA email tournament
