October 2019 Newsletter WBC 2020 CENTURY EVENTS REVEALED: Based on attendance and player hours at WBC 2019, the Century group has been identified for the 2020 WBC. The top 100 events along with 11 Legacy events will make up the Century group. For a complete list of the Century group, visit http://www.boardgamers.org/wbc_preparation_pelorphans.html . CALL FOR NEW EVENTS FOR 2020: November is the time to submit an event form <http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/SubmitEvent.php> to get a new event into WBC 2020. In order to have your event appear on the annual membership form it must be submitted by a committed GM between November 1st and November 25th. This is the only way to get a new event onto the ballot for WBC 2020 Trial voting. Please complete the form carefully and completely since it will be used to determine event location in 2020 if successfully voted in. Event forms for the Century group may be submitted once the membership drive starts in early December. Voting for trials will end on January 31, 2020. MEMBERSHIP DRIVE FOR 2020 WILL OPEN IN EARLY DECEMBER: The BPA annual membership drive will open in the first week of December 2019. Online membership will remain open until June 15, 2020. Price increases will occur on January 31st, March 31st, and June 15th, 2020. To be eligible to vote for the 25 Trial events, you must join by January 31st, 2020. To receive a price before it increases, you must submit the online membership application which will be available on the BPA website and send payment by the date listed (Paypal payment sent or check postmarked by the 3 dates listed). WBC HONORS: The coming months will unveil our annual awards for Sportsmanship and GM of the Year but we can't do them justice without your input. Take a moment to tell us why someone you encountered should be considered for the Sportsmanship or GM of the Year Award by emailing us at conventiondirector [at] boardgamers.org <mailto:conventiondirector [at] boardgamers.org> by November 25, 2019. WBC EVENT REPORTS AND EVENT HISTORY & LAURELS PAGES IN PROGRESS: The Event Reports and Event History & Laurels pages for the 2019 events are being loaded. The page shows the date each game was updated so you can see the new events as they are added. All pages should be updated by mid-November. PBeM NEWS: TOURNAMENTS STARTING: AGRICOLA TO START ON DECEMBER 1: Randy Buehler will once again be GMing a PBeM tournament of Agricola starting in December. DIPLOMACY 202 TOURNAMNET TO BEGIN JANUARY 7: Start your year out with some backstabbing fun! Diplomacy 2020 begins on January 7th, and signups are underway. As in prior years, games will be played on playdiplomacy.com <http://playdiplomacy.com> . Scoring will be done with the C-Diplo system, and all games will be adjudicated at the end of Winter 1910. EGIZIA TOURNAMENT TO START IN NOVEMBER: Rob Flowers will be GMing PBeM tournament of Egizia starting in November. Egizia has been a tournament at WBC since 2011, now is your chance to join an online tournament of this ancient Egyptian worker placement game. The tournament will be played on the Yucata online game portal and all entrants will play 4 simultaneous games for a chance to advance to further rounds. MARCH MADNESS TOURNAMENT TO START DECEMBER 1: The 18th annual BPA March Madness tournament will begin on December 1 under GM Sean McCulloch. ONGOING TOURNAMENTS: FOR THE PEOPLE IN SEMINFINALS: Fifty-six entrants played 92 games in the 4 Swiss rounds. The 8 advancing to the quarterfinals were Tolga Corapuci, Michael Day, David Sherwood, Jean-Louis Dirion, Robert Champer, Stephane Chevallier, Mike Turian and Thomas Georgeos. Michael Day defeated Louis Dirion in the first semifinal and awaits the winner of Robert Champer and Mike Turian. GREAT CAMPAIGNS OF THE AMEERICAN CIVIL WAR ENTERS SINGLE ELIMINATION STAGE: Out of 37 total entrants, 16 players have advanced to the single-elimination portion of the tournament. Earning the top three seeds were the only undefeated players in the three qualifying rounds: Ken Lee, Bruno Passacantando (the defending champion), and Al Owen. PATHS OF GLORY 2016 CONTINUES IN ROUND 9: Nick Anner and eliminator Paul Hubbard continue to duke it out, they're on turn 12 with heavy action, likely to be decisive, on the Western Front. PATHS OF GLORY 2019 ROUND 2 ENDING: Final participant count is 132 with several round 2 latecomers added. Round 2 bidding ranged from three CP bids of 1 to three AP bids of 2. The average bid was 0.72 for the AP. 44 of the 61 bids were 1VP for the AP (Giving the CP 1 VP at game end). Round 2 ends October 31, 2019. WASHINGTON'S WAR ROUND 3 IS COMPLETE: six players remain undefeated after 3 rounds of play. Round 3 saw 9 British wins and 11 American victories. This brings 3 round totals to 33 British wins and 34 American victories. Rather, we are an organization of gamers lending support to one another so such events can happen. No one cares as much about your hobby as you do. Get involved.
