November 2018 Newsletter DEADLINE FOR NEW EVENTS FOR 2019 ENDS NOVEMBER 25: The deadline for submitting an event form <http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/SubmitEvent.php> to get a new event into WBC 2019 is 6 days away. In order to have your event appear on the annual membership form it must be submitted by a committed GM before November 25th. This is the only way to get a new event onto the ballot for WBC 2019 Trial voting. Please complete the form carefully and completely since it will be used to determine event location in 2019 if successfully voted in. Event forms for the Century group may be submitted once the membership drive starts on December 3rd. Voting for trials will end on January 31, 2019. WBC HONORS DEADLINE APPROACHING: The coming months will unveil our annual awards for Sportsmanship and GM of the Year but we can't do them justice without your input. If you would like to nominate someone for the Sportsmanship or GM of the Year Award, email the BPA at conventiondirector [at] boardgamers.org <mailto:conventiondirector [at] boardgamers.org> telling us why someone you encountered should be considered. There are only 6 days left to submit nominations, the deadline is November 25th. MEMBERSHIP DRIVE FOR 2019 WILL OPEN ON DECEMBER 3rd: The BPA annual membership drive will open on December 3, 2018. Online membership will remain open until June 15, 2019. Price increases will occur on January 31st, March 31st, and June 15st, 2019. To be eligible to vote for the 25 Trial events, you must join by January 31st, 2019. To receive a price before it increases, you must submit the online membership application which will be available on the BPA website and send payment by the date listed (Paypal payment sent or check postmarked by the 3 dates listed). WBC EVENT REPORTS, EVENT HISTORY & LAURELS, AND WINNERS PAGES IN PROGRESS: The Event Reports, Event History & Laurels, and Winners pages for the 2018 events are being loaded. 117 pages are posted and can be found at http://www.boardgamers.org/yearbook18/ . The page shows the date each game was updated so you can see the new events as they are added. All pages will be updated by the end of November. SEVEN SPRINGS RESERVATIONS: Remember that Reservations at Seven Springs for Condos/Townhouses, Chalets, and Cabins can be booked now. A new champion is crowned, with Nick Pei climbing to the top for the first time. A total of 42 participants entered, each playing two games at a time for a total of four games. After that, the top eight players engaged in single elimination. When the dust settled, only 2 elites remained standing. The championship features a Top 5 Player in Nick Pei against Robert Champer, a newcomer who has only been playing for a few years and now climbed all the way to the top. The remaining laurelists, in order, were David Sherwood, Joshua Lowe, Michael Day and Mike Turian. For more details, visit http://www.boardgamers.org/pbem/pbem-ftp.html . DIPLOMACY TOURNAMENT TO START IN JANUARY: The next Diplomacy email tournament is scheduled to start January 10, 2019. Kevin Youells will be the GM this year. EMPIRE OF THE SUN TO START IN DECEMBER: Chris Crane will be GMing an Empire of the Sun tournament to begin December 7, 2018. NEXT FOR THE PEOPLE TOURNAMENT SCHEDULED FOR DECEMBER: The next for the People tournament will begin on December 1, 2018. Michael Day will once again be the GM. TIME FOR ANOTHER MARCH MADNESS COMPETITION: The 17th annual BPA March Madness PBeM tournament will start with the draft on November 24, 2018. All players receive two teams, so are guaranteed at least two games in the event. The format is single elimination until a champion is crowned, usually in late spring. WBC GM Gareth Williams will be GMing this tournament. The format will be 2 player double elimination. TERRA MYSTICA TOURNAMENT STARTS IN JANUARY: A Terra Mystica tournament, run by Ryan Feathers, will begin in early January. Sign-ups with the GM by January 1st. WASHINGTON'S WAR TO BEGIN IN JANUARY: Washington's War Ladder leader Bill Peeck will begin the next Washington's War PBeM tournament on January 1, 2019. Remember ... all of the above PBeM fun is free to current BPA members. Others may qualify with a $10 Email membership in the year the event starts. All multi-day paid attendees to WBC are current BPA members for the balance of that calendar year. ================================= BPA members who would like to see an email tournament for their favorite game are encouraged to step forward as the GM of such an event. BPA does not run tournaments. Rather, we are an organization of gamers lending support to one another so such events can happen. No one cares as much about your hobby as you do. Get involved.
