June 2021 Newsletter

BOARD OF DIRECTORS VOTING CLOSES ON JUNE 30: Four Members appear on the
ballot for election to a three-year term on the BPA Board of Directors. The
slate features two incumbents and two challengers. The list of candidates
and their statement can be found at
http://www.boardgamers.org/about_election2017.html . The voting for the
Board of Directors candidates is now opened. Members are encouraged to vote
on who you believe would be the best candidates on your BPA Board of
Directors. Voting will end on June 30, 2021, and winners will be announced
in a future newsletter. Voting is easy with an online ballot which can be
found at http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/BoardBallot.shtml

SEVEN SPRINGS WBC RESERVATIONS: Seven Springs has completed the cancelation
of all WBC reservations and the refund of all deposits for members who did
not request to keep their reservation. If you have any questions, please
contact the convention director at conventiondirector [at] boardgamers.org
<mailto:conventiondirector [at] boardgamers.org> .

WBC 2022 EVENTS: The Board has determined that all Century and Legacy
events scheduled for WBC 2020 and 2021 will be carried over to WBC 2022.
This includes the 100th Century event of Splendor. Since most event
submissions occurred in late 2019 or early 2020, GM's will be asked to
resubmit a new version of the event submission form in the September/October
2021 timeframe. A new form will be created to take into account any changes
to the tiebreaker rules that is currently being discussed by the board as
well as updating the form for the Seven Springs layout. An announcement
will be made in a future newsletter when the tiebreaker decision is made and
when the form will be available.

With the cancellation of WBC 2020 and 2021, the Board has decided to hold a
trial ballot for 30 events. Due to the absence of a ballot since December
2019, the decision has been made to increase the trial event number from 25
to 30 for WBC 2022 only since there have been many new games published since
the last trial ballot. Event forms for the trial ballot will be accepted
from the date the new event submission form is available through October 15,
2021. Voting will be open from November 1, 2021, to November 30, 2021. The
results of the Trial Ballot will be announced in December 2021.

For those looking to see what high-level innovative play looks like, it is
strongly recommended that you review "
<http://acts.warhorsesim.com/dynamic/journal.asp?id=80548> BPA VIII R7G3".
Michael Dauer and Tom Drueding were also generous enough to put in a lot of
in-game commentary. Highlights include: 1) Multiple permanent army
eliminations (GE, FR, RU, BEF/MEF/NE), 2) No US armies nor Fall of The Tsar
(war status ended at 28), Germans at the gates of Paris but at the cost of
being multiple turns behind getting to Total War, and Serbia survived,
Belgrade dug in with a Level 2 trench. This tournament should finish in the
middle of 2022, but planning has begun on the next PBeM tournament for Paths
of Glory. Stay up to date on this event at the BPA VIII PBEM website at
https://www.bitterwoods.net/paths-of-glory-2019-bpa-tourney/ .
