Each round will last no more than two-and-a-half weeks; the expectation is that all games will be played via email, and via text exchange as the default method (although CyberBoard or VASSAL files can be exchanged if both players agree to do so), although real-time games may be played VASSAL if both players agree. As was the case last year, the tournament will again consist of a double-elimination Preliminary Stage (similar in many respects to the usual WAS Swiss tournament format) followed by a single-elimination Knockout Stage - full details can be found on the tournament website at <https://waratsea.jimdofree.com/> https://waratsea.jimdofree.com/. If you are interested in participating in the tournament, please email Jonathan at <mailto:jsl552009 [at] hotmail.com> jsl552009 [at] hotmail.com no later than 28 April. Ongoing Tournaments: BATTLES OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION ENTERS QUARTERFINALS: After 4 preliminary rounds involving 55 games and 29 players, we have narrowed the field down to 8 players who will advance to the playoffs. Congratulations to George Young, Rob Doane, Todd Carter, Rob McCracken, Jeff Lange, Dave Stiffler, Mark Miklos, and Bill Morse. The quarterfinal round will feature the Battle of Newport, the first time this title has appeared in tournament play. EMPIRE OF THE SUN ENTERS SEMIFINALS: The semifinals have started with Jay Meyers and Frank Riepenhausen battling again and Greg Waldeck taking the Bye. For those interested, the ACTS logs are still available for the Round 7 matches. Some great Empire of the Sun playing is on display! As always, the latest Standings information can be found at https://sites.google.com/view/eots-pbem/home/standings. PATHS OF GLORY IN ROUND 7: Scott B. and Jukka H. will be the last two members of the undefeated pool in Round 7, everyone else will be in a 'one and done' situation. Going 6-0 is pretty impressive given the depth of the field in event, well played, guys. We will have thirteen folks competing in Round 7 so there is a high likelihood that we will need an eliminator. STONE AGE ENTERS SEMIFINALS: The first round of the Stone Age tournament has concluded and play has begun in the semifinal. Sixty-five players competed in the first round, with 24 advancing to the semifinal. Three players achieved a perfect record of 4 wins in round 1: Haakon Monsen, Eric Freeman, and Scott Saccenti. Another four players managed to win 3 out of 4 games: Sam Wolff, Antony Saccenti, Andrew Martin, and Andrew Emerick. WILDERNESS WAR ENTERS ELIMINATION ROUND: The following six players will advance to the elimination phase: Keith Wixson (4-0), James Pei (4-0), Bill Peeck (4-0) Michael Mandelberg (3-1), Dan Sirbu (3-1), and Ron Fedin (3-1). Wixson and Pei, as the remaining seeded players, will receive a bye in Round 5 and will automatically advance to the semifinals. Bill and Ron are paired in one quarterfinal and Michael and Dan in the other. Three players remain undefeated. Allan Jiang notched his 13th straight win in BPA tournament play and faces reigning WBC champion Owen Kyrollos in Round 6. Meanwhile 2-time WBC champion Tony Russo goes up against last year's PBEM 7th place finisher David Stengle (chosen randomly from the pool of 1-loss players). VOYAGES OF MARCO POLO ENTER FINAL ROUND: After fifteen semifinal games, 7 players have advanced to the final round of the Voyages of Marco Polo tournament. Allan Jiang led the way with 3 wins again while three other players earned 2 wins each: Peter Ran, Connie Vogelmann, and Dominic Blais. The remaining finalists are Robb Effinger, Michael Swinson, and David Vestal. BPA PBeM Remember: ... all of the above PBeM fun is free to current BPA members. Others may qualify with a $10 Email membership in the year the event starts.
