February 2019 Newsletter GABERSON VOTED SPORTSMANSHIP WINNER: Paul Gaberson has been named Sportsman of the Year for 2018 by amassing 25% of the 480 (a record number) votes cast in the annual membership vote. Paul went out of his way to alert his opponent in the final of Wilderness War of an obscure rule that allowed his opponent to win the game on his last card play. Paul earned himself WBC's biggest prize . free lodging at the next WBC. See the details at http://www.boardgamers.org/wbc18/sportman.html . 2019 TRIAL VOTE RESULTS: The 2019 Membership Drive saw record numbers of Members vote for the trial events to be held at WBC 2019. The members indicated a strong preference for returning games as 22 of the 25 trails were events at WBC 2018. Only Sagrada, Gaia Project, and Space Base joined as new events in 2019. The results of the Membership Vote can be found at http://www.boardgamers.org/wbc19/trialvote.html . MEMBERSHIP DRIVE CONTINUES: The BPA annual membership drive continues but prices will increase on April 1, 2019. If you still want to get the lower rates, you must complete and submit the online application at http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/MemberForm.shtml and submit payment via Paypal or check. To receive the price before it increases, the form and the payment must be submitted before April 1 (Paypal payment sent or check postmarked before April 1, 2019). A list of the current members as of February 13, 2019 can be found at http://www.boardgamers.org/wbc19/prereg.html . Only those members who have completed the membership form and submitted payment are on the list. Online membership will remain open until June 15, 2019. Price increases will occur on April 1st, and June 15th, 2019. To receive a price before it increases, you must submit the online membership application which is available on the BPA website and send payment by the date listed (Paypal payment sent or check postmarked by the dates listed). CALL FOR GM's FOR 2019: Now is the time to submit an event form <http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/SubmitEvent.php> for the WBC 2019 events. Please complete the form carefully and completely since it will be used to determine event location for WBC 2019. A reminder that you must be a BPA member for 2019 to GM an event. The Orphans page, with the WBC 2019 trial events, has been updated as of February 13, 2019 at http://www.boardgamers.org/wbc_preparation_pelorphans.html. Currently 47 of the 111 Century/Legacy events and 11 of the 25 Trial events have GMs. The deadline for submitting event forms is March 15, 2019, only four weeks away. Any event without a GM by March 15 will be subject to replacement by an alternate event with a committed GM. SEVEN SPRINGS RESERVATIONS: Hotel Reservations now available for stays of 4 nights or more. Remember that Reservations at Seven Springs for Condos/Townhouses, Chalets, and Cabins can also be booked at this time. To appear on the ballot, a member must be nominated in writing by at least three members; one of which must be the nominee. Nominations must be signed and received at BPA, 7766 Valley View Court, Hickory, NC 28602 no later than February 28, 2019 to be eligible for election in that year. NOTE: Email nominations are NOT acceptable, nor can a member nominate more than one member for the Board. When contemplating nominations, members should consider that the BPA conducts most of its business by email and needs Board members who are able and willing to offer their time and skills to the organization in a timely manner. Besides forwarding a signed nomination, each nominee must submit a statement not to exceed 100 words summarizing what they can contribute in service to the Board of Directors of the BPA by February 28, 2019. Others may qualify with a $10 Email membership in the year the event starts. All multi-day paid attendees to WBC are current BPA members for the balance of that calendar year. BPA members who would like to see an email tournament for their favorite game are encouraged to step forward as the GM of such an event. BPA does not run tournaments. Rather, we are an organization of gamers lending support to one another so such events can happen. No one cares as much about your hobby as you do. Get involved.
