SPORTSMANSHIP WINNER: Michael Dauer of Houston, TX has been named Sportsman
of the Year for 2017 by amassing nearly 23% of the 467 (a record number)
votes cast in the annual membership vote.  Michael went out of his way, to
the detriment of his position in a game, to teach a new player Here I Stand
earning himself WBC's biggest prize . free lodging at the next WBC. See the

2018 TRIAL VOTE RESULTS: the 2018 Membership Drive saw record numbers of
Members vote for the trial events to be held at WBC 2018.  The members
indicated a strong preference for returning games as 21 of the 25 trails
were events at WBC 2017.  Only Great Western Trail, 878 Vikings, and
Railways of the World joined as new events in 2018 with Tyranno Ex making a
return appearance.  The results of the Membership Vote can be found at


MEMBERSHIP DRIVE CONTINUES: The BPA annual membership drive continues but
prices will increase on April 1, 2018.  If you still want to get the lower
rates, you must complete and submit the online application at
http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/MemberForm.shtml and submit payment via
Paypal or check.  To receive the price before it increases, the form and the
payment must be submitted before April 1 (Paypal payment sent or check
postmarked before April 1, 2018).  A list of the membership as of February
22, 2018 can be found at http://www.boardgamers.org/wbc18/prereg.html .
Only those members who have completed the membership form and submitted

CALL FOR GM's FOR 2018: Now that the century group and trial events are set,
it is time to submit an event form

Currently 56 of the 111 Century/Legacy events and 10 of the 25 Trial events
have GMs.  The deadline for submitting event forms is March 15, only three
weeks away.  Any event without a GM by March 15 will be subject to
replacement by an alternate event with a committed GM.  If you wish to
submit an event form and join the GM ranks, please complete an event form
<http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/SubmitEvent.php>  soon.  Also, please
complete the form carefully and completely since it will be used to
determine event location for WBC 2018.  Reminder that you must be a BPA
member for 2018 to GM an event.  The Orphans page has been updated as of
February 21 at http://boardgamers.org/wbc18/orphans.html .


SEVEN SPRINGS RESERVATIONS:  Hotel Reservations now available for stays of 4
nights or more.  Remember that Reservations at Seven Springs for
Condos/Townhouses, Chalets, and Cabins can also be booked at this time.  For

EVENT REPORTS:  The first event reports for WBC 2017 have been loaded onto
the website.  27% of the events are live on the website and the remaining
will be updated over the next several weeks.  Event reports can be found at


EURO EVENT COORDINATION:  Eric Freeman has agreed to coordinate the 2018
Euro events again in an attempt to minimize scheduling conflicts.  If you
are a Euro event GM and would like to be a part of this, please contact Eric

Director Candidates for 2018 closes on February 28.  All BPA members are
hereby notified of their right to nominate members for the three Board seats
whose terms expire at the next WBC. To appear on the ballot, a member must
be nominated in writing by at least three members; one of which must be the
nominee. Nominations must be signed and received at BPA, 7766 Valley View
Court, Hickory, NC 28602 no later than February 28, 2018 to be eligible for
election in that year. NOTE: Email nominations are NOT acceptable, nor can a
member nominate more than one member for the Board. When contemplating
nominations, members should consider that the BPA conducts most of its
business by email and needs Board members who are able and willing to offer
their time and skills to the organization in a timely manner. Besides
forwarding a signed nomination, each nominee must submit a statement not to
exceed 100 words summarizing what they can contribute in service to the
Board of Directors of the BPA by February 28, 2018. The nomination form is

David Sherwood defeated Michael Day and Michael Dauer to capture the
Napoleonic Wars PBeM Tournament.  The tournament drew 35 players playing a
total of 34 games. The top six Laurelists were David Sherwood, Michael Day,
Michael Dauer, Lance Roberts, Pat Duffy, and Gareth Williams.  For details,

Others may qualify with a $10 Email membership in the year the event starts.

All multi-day paid attendees to WBC are current BPA members for the balance
of that calendar year. 




BPA members who would like to see an email tournament for their favorite
game are encouraged to step forward as the GM of such an event. BPA does not
run tournaments. Rather, we are an organization of gamers lending support to
one another so such events can happen. No one cares as much about your hobby
