October 2017 Newsletter WBC 2018 CENTURY EVENTS REVEALED: Based on attendance and player hours at WBC 2017, the Century group has been identified for the 2018 WBC. The top 100 events along with 11 Legacy events will make up the Century group. Transamerica was added to the Legacy event list by the Board. For a complete list of the Century group, visit http://boardgamers.org/wbc18/orphans.html . CALL FOR NEW EVENTS FOR 2018: NOW is the time to submit an event form <http://www.boardgamers.org/forms/SubmitEvent.php> to get a new event into WBC 2018. In order to have your event appear on the annual membership form it must be submitted by a committed GM no later than November 30th. This is the only way to get a new event onto the ballot for WBC 2018 Trial voting. Please complete the form carefully and completely since it will be used to determine event location in 2018 if successfully voted in. Event forms for the Century group may be submitted once the membership drive starts on December 5th. Voting for trials will end on January 31, 2018. MEMBERSHIP DRIVE FOR 2018 WILL OPEN ON DECEMBER 5th: The BPA annual membership drive will open on December 5, 2017. Online membership will remain open until June 15, 2018. Price increases will occur on January 31st, March 31st, and June 15th, 2018. To be eligible to vote for the 25 Trial events, you must join by January 31st, 2018. To receive a price before it increases, you must submit the online membership application which will be available on the BPA website and send payment by the date listed (Paypal payment sent or check postmarked by the 3 dates listed). WBC HONORS: The coming months will unveil our annual awards for Sportsmanship and GM of the Year but we can’t do them justice without your input. Take a moment to tell us why someone you encountered should be considered for the Sportsmanship or GM of the Year Award by emailing us at conventiondirector [at] boardgamers.org <mailto:conventiondirector [at] boardgamers.org> by November 30, 2017. The fourth round officially started on October 27th with 26 matches. The completion target for Round 4 is February 28th. No extensions are anticipated, plan for (and use) the upcoming holiday season wisely! 51 players and an eliminator with Maurizio G serving double duty this round. There are 12 people in the A-pool, some familiar names, some not, and 39 players in the B-pool. For 19 or 20 of these folks, this will be their last round. MARCH MADNESS STILL ACCEPTING SIGN-UPS UNTIL NOVEMBER 30th: The sixteenth annual BPA March Madness PBeM tournament will start with the draft on Friday, December 1st. All players receive two teams, so are guaranteed at least two games in the event. The format is single elimination until a champion is crowned, usually in late spring. If you have played March Madness before but are worried about using ACTS to play the game through email, Harry Flawd and Mark Yoshikawa are standing by ready to show you how easily it can be done. The tournament will be single elimination. The length of each round will be 13 weeks. The GM will be Bruno Sinigaglio.
