HAIL CAESAR: Jeff Mullet, a Cabbie with a penchant for the occasional "manly" game, rode his dominance of Age of Renaissance to the title of Casear in 2006 by topping all eligible players with 166 Laurels in the 2006 season. In all, Jeff banked 95 laurels with the Renaissance trading game - 5 for a sixth in the email tournament, a whopping 60 for winning the Enlihtenment mini-con tournament and another 30 for winning the event at WBC. Finishing second was another Jeff, Cornett to be precise, a mere 22 laurels behind, with 134 - all earned at WBC. Mullet thus owes his overall BPA title to his well-travelled presence at Euro Quest, Enlightenment and the Block Party mini-cons plus email campaigns which augmented his laurel totals. Jeff Cornett's near miss was made more bearable by handily winning the Consul Award for most laurels earned at WBC. Rounding out the top six BPA competitors for 2006 were Chris Byrd, Don Greenwood, Thomas Browne and Ewan McNay in that order. For more details, see

DECEMBER MEMBERSHIP DRIVE: Prospective BPA members are urged to renew memberships for 2007 NOW through the end of the year both to save money with our lowest rates and to vote for the inclusion of 25 Continuing Trial events and the winner of our annual Sportsmanship Award. Vote to retain your favorite events or introduce new ones. Give some deserving player a free room at WBC 2007 by electing the most deserving Sportsman of the Year. Your vote must be postmarked by December 30th to count. The December membership application is posted with the 2007 Ballot for Trial events and Sportsmanship nominees at The form needs to be printed out and mailed with the appropriate membership fee rather than submitted on line. Note that while we again held the line on prices in 2007, we no longer offer a Family membership discount.

2007 PRE-CONS: For those contemplating this year's Pre-Con schedule, please note that due to space restrictions, there will be no Saturday Pre-Cons in 2007, although we do anticipate a range of Pre-Con choices similar to those of 2006 starting on Sunday afternoon/evening. The good news is that those who enjoy historical miniature play can get a double dose of gaming this summer in one trip by taking in the HMGS Historicon convention which precedes us at Lancaster Host and ends as we begin. Two solid weeks of gaming! Never before has there been such an opportunity and the planets may not align thus again in this lifetime. Don't miss the 2007 season. Stay tuned for more details on this exciting Double Dip opportunity.

GM RESERVATIONS: All GMs are reminded that their event "reservations" for the WBC events they ran in 2006 expire on January 1st. To retain GM status of your event, you must submit a new event form at and renew your membership by the end of the year. Otherwise, those events will be listed as OPEN on the Orphan's List at in an attempt to attract a new GM.

EURO QUEST IV: A hearty "well done!" to Scott Buckwalter and JP Roberts and their many GCOM helpers for hosting Euro Quest IV on November 9th - 12th in Timonium, MD which was a great success by any standard with its largest attendance to date with over 200 gamers on hand. Congratulations also to Arthur Field who maintained his reign as the Euro top dog by winning the Harald Siegelman Award for the fourth year running. You can check out all the winners at

D-DAY IX: Don Greenwood went unbeaten in five rounds and repeated as champion of the Breakout Normandy tournament held in conjunction with Euro Quest IV on Nov 10th-12th in Timonium, MD to win the event for the third time. WAR AT SEA: The 2004 PBeM Tournament finished this summer with Andy Gardner of Virginia topping Robert Drozd of Illinois in the 7th and Final round. 44 Players participated with nearly half of them starting with a 5300 or higher AREA rating. The format was 5 Swiss Rounds that advanced the top six to the Single Elimination Phase. The other laurelists were Rob Day, Mark Gutfreund, Rob Flowers and Mike Kaye who finished third through sixth, respectvely. Full results of the tournament can be found at

Anyone interested in running an email tournament is invited to inquire. BPA members who would like to see an email tournament for their favorite game are encouraged to step forward as the GM of such an event. BPA does not run tournaments. Rather, we are an organization of gamers lending support to one another so such events can happen. No one cares as much about your hobby as you do. Get involved. See the requirements to host a BPA email tournament at

All BPA PBeM tournaments require current BPA membership when the event starts. All multi-day paid attendees to WBC are current BPA members for the balance of that calendar year. Associate Calendar year memberships enabling play in all PBeM events starting in that year cost only $10. You need not keep your membership current in order to finish a PBeM event. Players may join the BPA throughout the year. Members are reminded they can upgrade their current memberships at any time by remitting the additional funds. See for details.
